Sept-21: A Woman Takes the Bench

Thirty-five years ago today, Sandra Day O’Connor became the first woman Supreme Court Justice.  She served nearly 25 years before retiring in 2006 due to her husband’s failing health.  The moderate O’Connor was succeeded by the more ideological Justice Samuel Alito.

Al-Shabaab, an extremist Islamic group, attacked an upscale shopping mall in suburban Nairobi, Kenya – killing 67 and wounding more than 175.  The attack was characterized as retribution for Kenya’s deployment of troops in Somalia.
